It's been a while since I've done any knife work. I roughed out a few blades from some 1095 billets today. I'm going with a slight recurve blade shape. Something new for me.

Looking good Clint...I've always been able to achieve the sharpest edge on 1095
-
Those are looking good Clint.

I wanna see where this goes! it looks really good so far! ;D

There's Russell, thought he went and grew up. :D
Good to know about the metal types. I just ran into a blacksmith today who pretty much echoed you. He likes 1085-1095 best for knives.

I started grinding the bevels in the small blade.

It was going good until the drive pulley on the sander started to crumble apart. It's the second pulley that has fell apart. It's a pretty old sander that I picked up a couple weeks ago for $20

Luckily I had an old motor on a shelf that had a similar sized pulley. I had to move the motor and remove some guides to make it work.

I was able to finish roughing in the bevels on one knife.

beautiful grinds.
could you please show us your jig?

It's just a piece of aluminum angle that I clamp the blade to. You can see it in the first picture. I tilted the tool rest. I took a guess at the angle and was pretty happy with the results. The billets are a little thick. That angle removed a lot of weight. I use a small guide for the plunge grind.

Good progress Clint...

Looking good, Clint. :OK

Clint, very nice grind. Can you post some better pics of the jig at differant angles.
