The next few bows will be ELB style, heres the first made from osage.
Staves like this are from free standing young trees, full of branches. They make very characterful bows, in this case with lots of holes. Some going through, some not. The wood is gnarly with a wavy grain and changing crown, looking like showing muscles. On some portions are cluster pin knots. A narrow part (occurred during splitting) is used for the arrow part. I decided for naked handle and just burnt in an arrow pass mark. A hole near the upper tip caused the swelling, it looks a bit crazy. While writing I noticed it may be a good distance for mounting a string keeper there

A work of art as all of your bows, but I have a question: aren't you concerned about leaving some holes on the belly side? doesn't it weaken that spot on the limb?
-
Stunning work as usual :)

She's a real beauty, Simon. :OK
-
Always impressed with your work Simon. Beautiful bow.
-
That is a real challenge in a ELB. I like that On and Im not a fan of ELB s. Arvin
-
Would you look at that. Awesome work.
-
Just beautiful work as always. That thing is crazy
-
I love it, warts and all!
-
Wow! I love it.
-
Hard to add anything that hasn't already been said. It is a work of art, a real beauty, and looks like it could really sling some arrows.
-
Beautifully photographed, too!

Thanks Gentlemen,
I really appriciate your comments and I'm glad you like her!

Zugul, you just have to listen to the wood. When it needs a swelling because of a hole, let the grain swirl around - it shows the force lines. And no I'm not concerned, I'm sure it isn't a problem at all.

I'm very pleased with the performance of this bow, I like the smooth draw and the power it dvelops.

That is so wonderful and so nicely tillered! Jawge
-
Outstanding look ;)
-
Amazing work once again. I wish I had the patience to work a piece of osage like that. You are truly a master.
-
Lots of fun to look at that bow! Simple and fascinating at the same time.
-
Did you reflex the bow by heat treating or steaming or is it growth?
-
Now that is a funky bow! Interesting for sure! It has held a lot of reflex....fine job tillering that one.
Maybe you could round out your string grooves a little more tho....haha ;) ;)
-

reflex is half natural, half induced with steam. No heat treating on that bow, just heat corrections for string alignment and balance.

Haha
I waited for that comment ...
I saw it as I posted the pics. But it is only the string wax, grooves are sanded o. k. (-S (-S (-S
Reflex: I lost only 1" of reflex during tiller process and shooting in, this is very dense wood, very small early rings and that porous than usual.
Thanx all a lot!

Wow, that thing is spectacular. You've got my vote for bow of the month, hands down!
