Title: Did I do it right this time?
Post by: Deerhunter21 on November 23, 2021, 08:15:49 pm
I’ve been real sick recently so I haven’t been able to make many bows. Today though I decided to go out and heat treat a bow I’m making for a trade. I really hope I got the color right this time! I cranked the heat up and it was only a 45 min heat instead of hour thirty min heat

Color isn’t the whole story but that looks pretty good to me.  :OK

The time seems more reasonable

That looks pretty good to me, Russell but each type of wood darkens at different rates and temps. If this is hickory it can be darker but you can heat treat it again later in the process.

If I remember correctly white oak should darken a bit more but It's been a while since I made a white oak bow.
