Title: Goose feathers
Post by: Allyn T on January 10, 2022, 10:12:00 am
Friend of mine had some Canadian geese he killed and let me have the feathers. The primaries seem pretty worn down towards the tip, does that make a difference for fletching?

You very rarely use the tips of the feathers for fletching. Mostly it's the center to the butt end that is used. Goose feathers makes pretty good fletching and are more resistant to moisture and rain than turkey feathers.

Well, pick the best part out of the center but more towards the quill end.

Yep, just don't use the frayed part.  IME, goose feathers aren't quite as durable as wild turkey (rain is seldom an issue here), but they sure do look sharp.
