Had a nice piece of taxus bacata (European yew) with a little bit of character as i like 'm.
However during the first cuts to rough out a bow, I found some wind cracks from the center going outwards.
Therefore opted for a HLD in order to avoid visible cracks in the belly of a d-shape bow.
Other than that its a nice piece of wood and I find the HLD pleasing to eye as well.
Lots of discussions going on about advantages (or not) on HLD, so far haven't noticed yet real differences in performance to what I would have expected from this piece of wood. Is fast and snappy and pulls 40+ at 30 inches. You gotta love yew for its versatility, almost every stave imaginable will make a bow with some patience.

Very nice. I’ve never worked on a yew stave. I certainly have been impressed by a bunch of them that others have though.

Never worked with yew before. Sure love the looks of it. And those hollow limbs sure look nice, whether they shoot faster or not. Great job.
