So with dips like this, how do you go about making it bend nicely? Do you make sure it’s as thin as the rest of the bow, or does to need more “meat” to it?

Also, once your at about an inch of thickness, whats your main way of thinning. ive just been using a scraper but i cant remember if there is a faster way that is still as safe.
most of my files are dull, my rasps are dull too, and my drawknife isnt working as well. im gonna need to buy more tools before the marshalls! im realizing with tools you get what you pay for lol!

Dips need to be thicker slightly or they will hinge. The reason being is the mechanical leverage on a dip is increased due to the angles the dip itself forms. That makes it bend more with less force than the rest of the limb. It's just like a deflex there essentially.

The best way to check is to use calipers, to make sure you don't create a "thin" spot that might hinge.

Humps and dips have to do their share of the work. Using a caliper is a good idea.
The tendency with dips is to not have them bend enough.
I try to imagine a curved line going through the limbs.
