A few years ago a guy at the Classic gifted me a 100 year old fence osage fence post. When I tried to reduce it with a draw knife I realized just how hard this wood had become. I tried to deal with it a few times over the next couple of years but finally decided to see if I could find some one that could make something out of this interesting stave.
Will Harris, a friend and member of Twin Oak Bowhunters and a successful snakey bow builder was my candidate. I asked Will if he would like to take on the challenge and he was pleased to do so. I did mention to Will at the time that if he was successful I'd be happy for him to give it to me.
Three years later and my first time back to Twin Oaks and the Classic Will presented me with this incredible snakey bow. During the tillering process with it being drawn to about 22" the bottom limb gave way. You can imaging the disappointment Will felt then he remembered a snakey billet he had stored in his attic.
Will had the tanned beaver tail for the handle and Weylan put it together with the cool lacing.
After splicing the billet to the upper limb and retillering this was the final result...

That's a great looking bow for sure.

Just gotta ask Pat.
Any chance we can see a full draw?

Brian, I'm nervous about bracing and pulling to full draw. There might be a few pics of Pappy shooting it in "Bows".

Horrible bow! Get rid of it! :)
I know someone that might take it off your hands...
In all seriousness, that bow is damn snakey(in the best possible way)

I saw that full draw video and the arrows come spittin' out on Will's F/B page. Maybe it was his music in the background, maybe it was me missing out on the Classic again this year, maybe it was the danged pollen, but I got a little misty eyed. The whole story of this bow and how it came to be just fills my heart to overflowing.

John, you need to get back to Twin Oaks. You know how much fun it is. BTW, I gave Pappy some of your SD bees wax. It still has a pleasant honey smell. :OK

That's just amazing craftsmanship! Blown away.

That is such a stunner! I’ve watched the short video Will put together and shared on one of the Facebook forums a dozen times. Never ceases to amaze me. I’d be lucky just to look at a bow like that, yet alone own one.

Thats some fancy stuff there. Great bow, good story behind it.

Nice story and the bow looks incredible !
Once I could get my hand on such a piece - stave. 300EUR! I really had to say no. To much money for a lot of troubles (--).
Hm, but to have one of those.... (W

Pretty sweet bow! Not my cup of tea making character bows anymore but I sure do appreciate it :)
There was a super snakey stave on ebay the other week...

Very nice Pat, I think I have seen that one somewhere before 😉 Pappy

Yeah, this bow is definitely a prized possession. I already have a place of honor to show her off. Just thinking about where she came from, remembering the 100 year old fence post just blows my mind. I thought I had it in me then I realized it was above my pay grade. I'm very thankful to Will and Pappy for for creating this silk purse from the 100 year old sows ear. :OK

I think if your intuition says dont pull to full draw,, with your experience,, I would listen to your bowyers inner voice,, ;D ;D ;D :BB :BB (--)

Here is her place of honor, over the door between the sunroom and living room. My wife suggested it and I agreed with her.

I have one similar 55 inch unbacked except bullsnake skin with a handle like this..not quite as much snake as this one but the handle area is real close. I used the offset to make the bow center shot.. mine isn't a take down either.. with the handle area as such makes it is a great shooting bow.. killed a 143 6/8 8pt with it though, cane arrow and stone point.. best to date ... gut
