Title: Striker ??

 I aquired a striker that won't spark on chert or flint. Seems hard, any thoughts on why it won't strike.

check it with a file.
a file should NOT cut it..
then take an old file and see if u get sparks off the same chert or flint.

Is the striking  edge flat ? They need teeth to make a spark.

I ground the working edge  flat, now I have some sparks.

After cooking some steaks, I put the striker under the coals till it was the correct temp, " my opinion " now it sparks.
