Title: Cedar D-bow
Post by: 1/2primitive on September 11, 2008, 09:45:52 pm
I haven't posted a bow here in a while, mostly because I was having a bit of trouble with the pictures.
Anyway, here is a bow that I made sometime last year, but, like most of my bows, it got modified. ;D   I had been wanting to make a bow using the tie-on nocks descibed in the Bowyer's Bible, Vol. 2, and this one drew the short straw. ;)
I ended up cutting it down from 60" to about 57" ntn. It now draws a round 50lb@27", and shoots rather well, despite it's slightly excessive set. The tips of the bow were tapered to a point (though not too small, because cedar is not a very dense wood), and an extra long string was tied onto both ends. It works great, and was very simple to do.

Pics of the tips to come.

Here it is, hope you like it. :)

Thank you for the kind words. It is a pretty nice bow, but I've got a new favorite. I'll post it in a couple of days. :)

Sean, How big was the stave you made this bow with? It looks like it came from a small diameter tree.    Pat

Thanks again, guys.
Pat, the branch (it was from a tree that branched out near the ground, leaving a double forked tree) that it was from was about 3" in diameter. Maybe a little bigger. So no, it wasn't very large. I split it in half, and this was the cleanest piece.
