Here's a picture of me at camp with my little spike horn buck. We camped from wendsday evening to sunday, I shot this guy Saturday morning about 9:00am. Only being there for 4 days I wasn't passing up any shot opportunity's. He came in from behind me and got by my stand about 20 yards to my right before I could get a shot. Then he got down wind of me and spooked and ran back the way he came from and paused for a brief moment at around 30 yards or so. Farther than I would normally consider shooting but I figured it may be my only opportunity, so I cranked back my Hawthorne bow and let one fly. I thought I was going to completely miss the deer low but my string slapped my coat sleeve a little bit and and it made a noise and the buck ducked into the shot. The arrow hit him the neck and cut the main artery. He ran about two hundred yards. I never seen such a blood trail. You could see the blood from twenty paces away as we followed it. I guess its better to be lucky than good. You never know what can happen on longer shots like that, the deer has a lot of time to move between the time you let your arrow fly and the time it actually gets there. Guess luck was on my side this time.

Looks pretty big for a spike. Must grow them big in Ohio. Corn fed I guess. Good shooting! Pat

Glad you got another one Ryan, a little luck never hurts! ;)

Nice spike Ryano, looks to be average size for a northern spike to me :)

cant argue with success. glad it turned out good for you. That bow has been pretty so for huh? - Ryan

I've always liked spikes and that's a dandy. Should be some good eating!

good job on your kill, some fine eating.. HAWK
-
Pat, its a average sized year and a half old deer. Just didn't grow much for horns.
Thanks Pappy. We had the wood stove cranking at night, it was about 80 degrees inside and in the upper 30's outside.
Thanks Greg. I'd rather be lucky than good anyday. ;)
Thanks Dana.
Ryan, ya I really like the bow. I think I'll retire it after hunting season though, I'd hate for something to happen to it since I killed my biggest buck ever with it. I might hang it on a rack under the mount when I get it back.
Tracy, thanks yep can't eat the horns anyways....I'm no trophy hunter. I like to kill big deer as much as the next guy but I also won't hesitate to take what comes along.
Thanks Hawkbow.

I knew you had a grin in there somewhere ;D. Man that's some purty country - love that stream background. I did a little hiking in sw PA a couple years back and jumped a couple of deer, the understory was so thick that I never caught a glance of them.
-
Stacking 'em up, Ryano! Way to go! :D

what part of ohio ryano?

Bear, We were hunting the Brushcreek wildlife area near Monroeville, and Irondale Ohio....Its rather mountainous and rough terrain for Ohio.
Thanks Chad. ;D
