Hey folks! Wow, its good to be back here on PA! Haven't been around much for the past year or so in fact this is the first bow I have built in over a year. What was I thinking!
This bow was like a breath of fresh air to me, best therapy in the world. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out, although I was pretty doubtful of my tillering skills after not seeing a bow bend for quite awhile. Speaking of tillering, it was quite a challenge with all the dips, twists knots and of course the reflex/deflex profile that I induced with dry heat. I love the r/d profile,it is not only attractive but shoots super speedy. And this bow is no exception, I was pretty surprised by its ability to slam an arrow into the target with authority. When I began tillering the tips were exactly 2" in front of the handle. After a bit of belly toasting and shooting it a bunch, the limbs are even with the handle when first unstrung and when relaxed completely are resting in front the of the handle a bit. I'll take that set over the 4" I used to get when I started making bows.
It's dimensions are 1 3/8 at the fades then tapering gradually to the 3/8" nocks. 54# @25". 60" nock to nock. Limbs are Asymmetrical.
The stain is brown and yellow aniline dye fading in to each other in different spots and I also distressed the stain with fine steel wool also. The finish is satin spar urethane.
Thanks for looking. Justin ;D

Thank you! The handle is X stitched with brown b-50 bowstring. The Hemp would be a good choice also.

Great looking bow Jbel, Did a good job getting that wood bending right into the fades. Not bad after a 1 year layoff for sure! Steve
-
Very nice bow Justin, I really like it when the natural dips and dives are left in the bow. Adds character.
-
Very nice job and welcome back.Bet it's a good shooter.

Sweet looking bow Justin, the dye job almost makes it look like aged osage.
-
this is one of the nicest R/D bows I have ever seen. keep it up!
-
Very nice! I love the way a good Osage bow looks, that one is sweet!
-
Great looking bow. Probably the best-shooting bow I ever made was an osage almost identical to that one in shape and character. Nice work.
-
Thanks guys! When I finally got to shoot this bow I was in my garage at about 5 yards and couldn't tell its performance. Once I got outside stepped back a bit I couldn't believe how flat it shot. I have made quite a few BBO's glued up in the R/D shape but never a selfbow.

That's a beauty - Like the analine on that.
-
That's a great looking bow with a great tiller. Well done! Jawge

Excellent bow and excellent workmanship! Pat

Very, very, nice. Love that profile. There's my prediction for November botm.....
-
nice job and a true character bow.
-
Really starting to like those r/d bows...and can't help being reminded of the ancient Egyptian bows. I admire your skill.... ;D

Saw this bow yesterday and really liked it . Came back and looked at it again and liked it even more. I'm going to try and not look at tomorrow; i may do something I'll regret. Its appeal is contagious. That's what you should name it. "CONTAGIOUS'

Man, that bow is beautiful. I really like the fine tipwork and the graceful lines. It's good to see your work again.
-
Just as everyone else has said already, very nice bow. I think that one will get er done. Danny
-
I agree with Pat ;D
Your fine self bow is all bookmarked for Nov and we'll get to enjoy it then. Thanks for the post.

That's a great bow Jbell, love that character boisd'arc! God Bless

Thanks, I truly appreciate the comments. I was shooting her today, need to chrono it, still feels pretty darn fast. What would a respectable speed be for a profile like this? Not for sure what my arrows weigh.
-
Beautiful peice of wood there jbell! Love that character and profile :).

I just noticed your only drawing it to 25" the short power stroke will kill you on speed, but with arrows 10 grains per pound I would expect it to be somewhere in the high 150's to low 160's. Better than that with a longer draw.

Thanks Ryano, thats what I thought about my short draw. I was just curious, as long as it performs in the woods I'll be happy. Hopefully this coming weekend I'll find out, bow season opens back up here in Illinois.
