Title: Quick question about compound and traditional
Post by: vCo2v on November 23, 2008, 04:46:24 am
Do you all think that it is easier to pull a heavier traditional bow compared to a compound bow?

Because with traditional archery you only reach full weight at the end of draw momentarily.

However with compounds you start off at full weight and let off at full draw.

To me, it seems a lot easier to draw a heavy compound. And once you get the cams turned over, you can hold it there forever unlike a traditional bow.

...but you still have to get it past the breaking point(max draw weight). Like a trad bow, a compound also increases in weight until you hit max weight at the breaking point then the draw weight decreases.  For me, it is easier to draw a trad bow of a weight I am comfortable with and it is easier for me to pull the smooth draw of a trad bow rather than to deal with the breaking point of a compound.
...but to answer your question, yes it is easier to pull a heavy wheel bow compared with a trad bow of similar draw weight.      Pat

a  also feel that it is easier on my shoulders pulling a trad bow, that damn let off can hurt at times

A Trad bow is much easier to let off. A compound  hurts my shoulder something awful. I think it's because of the jerky draw of the cams.

Yeah, hickswitch  - I agree - the herky jerky thing makes them impossible to shoot for me now, exept my old ben pearson with only  35% letoff.

I can't shoot a compound anymore, due to a shoulder injury. The sudden let-off used to be murder. Trad bow is no problem, and you are only holding full poundage for a brief moment.
