Why did you heat treat the ends?

pretty darned cool, reminds me of a Mohawk bow with the shallow scooped out scallops. Curious howcome ya dont like the Elm? I made a bunch of bows (some pretty heavy weights) from the red elm (slippery) and I like it a lot....so I'm just curious is all.

Just seems really light, and so far I have trouble hitting the weight I want (more me than the wood I'm sure) I'm used to the osage and hickory. I heat treated the ends just  for the contrast and to see if I could gain some weight. Just trying a few things with this one, seeing how deep I can take the scallops also.I may post more pics later if it makes it
