« on: December 03, 2015, 05:07:51 pm »
Hey guys I'm going to be knapping a blade for a knife for a fundraiser and was wondering what style of blade you guys think would do the best at a raffle, thanks, bub

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

If you are just going to make the blade I find a Mt. Morrow or Adena stemmed
works best for hafting. Easiest to make too.

Is the knife mainly for artistic purposes or something that could be used as well?

I'm guessing the knife will end up on display on someones mantle, zuma I'll be making the knife and a friend's dad who is a fantastic carver will make the stand, i was just trying to decide what type would draw the most interest to make money for the fundraiser

Despite the commonality of it, obsidian would probably be your best bet. A nice rainbow piece if ya got some. I've found that anything over a 6" blade seems awkward, but if it is well displayed and the handle is the right proportion the knife can look high end with longer blades.

For blade designs, something with a sweeping point and an angled finger guard is very eye pleasing. However, there are so many options as long as you keep the flow of the handle and blade in mind you can come up with some really crazy designs that still look great! Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks Scott that was what i was leaning towards blade wise but wanted some confirmation, out here in ishi land obsidion is my first choice andvthen maybe a jasper, red jasper was used in may burial points in this area, I'll post it up when the blade gets done and then when the stand gets completed
