question about backing and tipp overlays
« on: January 26, 2009, 12:50:19 pm »
i am building a bow out of red oak and was wondering i am going to put a rawhide backing on it and tip overlays should i put the hide on clear to the end of the tips and then put the overlays on top of the rawhide or put the tip overlays on and just put the rawhide up to the tip overlays

all suggestions are appreciated thanks       Joe

I would end the backing before the tips where the overlays will be in order to get a good glue up for the overlays.

Don't put the overlays on over the rawhide. I would probably put the overlays on after the rawhide. Just cut and remove the rawhide at the tips
where the overlays will go.

It don't matter but I do just the opposite,I put the tip overlays on first and then trim the rawhide up to them ,but not over the rawhide. :)

Definitely not over the rawhide...do the rawhide after the tips. :)
