No, we don't use hemp for strings.
« on: October 26, 2013, 06:27:04 am »
Hey guys,

New guy on the forums here (but avid reader for a long time). My name is Jules and as you might have guessed from the title I am from the Netherlands. I have been an archer and fletcher for a while now and just recently started making bows. I already made some English longbows and I am currently working out details on the Möllegabet bow (I even enthusiastically made an unpopular post about it before introducing myself http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,43013.0.html).

I do a lot of target competitions here (and all over Europe) and have gotten really interrested in flight shooting over the years so my bowyering efforts will mainly be targeted on making fast bows :)

I wish you all a good day!
Jules

Welcome Jules. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of your bows. Everybody likes pictures on this site.

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

Welcome.

You should try to make a string from hemp.  It would be at least as strong as linen :)

Hemp grows in the road ditches around northern Missouri (we call it ditchweed).  Not good for anything but making string.  Just be careful picking it.  Somehow i think ""Really officer.  It is for bowmaking." may not get you out of trouble!
