Pretty Jasper
« on: September 26, 2015, 10:16:32 am »
Went on a jasper run a while back with
 Hunts with Stone.
Here is some of the material when it is
mined out of the matrix. You do your best
to remove the grainy bubbly areas full of
big crystal pockets. It's a shame to loose the
crystals but it very hard to knap through air. ;D

 of the rougher sides. :)

If you save me some of that, I'll trade you some real nice quartzite for it.   >:D

I would have had some for you guys at Buckingham
but the rain took care of that. :(
If I send you some you can leave the quartzite
some where in the woods where I can't find it. >:D

Whoa! That's good looking stuff. I think I was given a slab of it but no idea where it went- slabs usually get put in a bucket somewhere. Like seeing the other side! Funny how points have their good and bad sides too
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short. Amen.

Here is what I got out of the scraps left from House Mt.
Totally loaded with chalcedony seams and crysrtal pockets.
Tedious knapping.

Zuma, if you have a place to dig that stone, you're one lucky man. I have a piece that looks a lot like the third photo. I bought it from a rock dealer who knew little about knapping, but knew a lot about rocks. That was back when I was still a beginner. I took a few flakes and realized that I needed to save that till I could do it justice. It is still out there. When I get ready to work it, I'll saw it first.

Chip,
My source has dried up due to a new bridge and some new houses.
The land is now all covered and landscaped.
It's to hard for my tile saw so I just struggle through it,
savoring each pretty spall and flake as they depart the
 mother stone. lol
There is still some on private land but I have no access to it.
I have some small pieces left. PM me if you want some.

PS I gave some to trapper rob to saw. Haven't heard how he made out.
Here is a good example of the beautiful nasties.
In order to get a reasonable point you usually have to eliminate most
of the beauty of the stone.
