Hickory ELB ~40#@28" - Tiller thoughts? (pictures)
« on: February 28, 2019, 03:26:08 pm »
Hello all,

Here is my latest bow. My thoughts so far are that I should trim down the ends of the bows to modify the tiller- it looks much too center-oriented at full draw. However, at the same time, there isn't any set in the handle. What are your thoughts?

Other than that, I feel like I'm almost done, and I like the look.

Details:
70 inches nock-to-nock (72 tip to tip)
~40#@28" (I don't have a measure but it feels just like a 45# Fiberglass Recurve)
Hickory Board

Hmm, you should be able to see the pictures without me allowing you access. And besides, google tells me I am unable to grant you the ability to edit it.

Post a picture of the bow unstrung, as this will help to show us where the bow is taking set.
From the full draw shot the centre looks to be bending more than its fair share, and the outer limbs not enough.
If you cut off an inch or so from each tip, the tiller will still be the same, the draw weight will just increase. In fact the centre will become under more strain.

perhaps the shortening will allow a bit of retillering of the midlimb  without losing too much draw weight

depends on what caused the set, the hickory may have potential if the bow is not too narrow

Sorry, I must have confused you. By "trim a little off the tips" I meant decreasing the thickness near the tips to make them bend more. I will keep the length as is.

the pictures are small and hard to tell much from, but the full draw looks pretty good and if you 'like the look' be happy and start another one...  :OK
Seems like common sense isn't very common any more...

you could do either if you feel the need to change the tiller. the suggestion to shorten before retillering is a way to keep the exixting  draw weight. Without shortening, your draw weight will drop, but with shortening you can try to keep it as is while changing the tiller shape some.
i like bobs barnes suggestion to keep it  as is, especially if it is you first bow. presuming you have got the bowbuilding bug, when you have a few more bows in your collection you can compare the way they shoot. and reconsider to modify  the retillering for another day.
