Back quivers, lets see them!
« on: April 01, 2020, 04:37:10 pm »
I have been a leather worker longer than a blacksmith and in all those years I only made one back quiver. It has served me very well over the last decade but I am thinking of making a new one. Nothing wrong with the one I have other than it is showing it's age.  If you guys have made your own, post some pictures I'd like to see them! Might be worth a little inspiration, THANKS!

This is one I made recently with other leather work to sell at the Classic. Needless to say that won't be happening.

Here is mine. I did the tooling and the stitching--I think I drilled over 500 holes before I could sew it up.

depending on what you want to use, Tandy leather has pretty good sales from time to time.

Honest advice, buy good leather. Cheap leather will dry out, crack and or rot away to nothing.

Russell, I've been getting relatively inexpensive leather each year from the Tenn Classic. There is a vender that sell oil tanned sides for about half price($60). I've been buying one or 2 each year for the last 4 or 5 years. The items in my pic above is the leather I got at last year's Classic.
Crazy Crow and Moscow Hide, both sponsors I think, have leather, hides and fur. Most companies have sales and discontinued deals.

Here's mine. I made this one 10-12 years ago and it has seen a bunch of upgrades and iterations since then. It was originally green but that dye faded and was dyed again. It gets a years coat of oil and put up for the season. I think this one has been along for about 23-24 heads of game. Coyote around the rim is from one of my kills. I started painting the Cou feathers that I tooled into the quiver a few years back. The slots are for lashing things to the quiver when I need to get back up into the hills a little farther than usual. It's a roomy quiver and will hold a small kit as well.

Some good looking quivers there.I have or use a variety of quivers. made out of rawhide, fur,or brain tan.
I like a side cat quiver type mostly for target shooting or hunting
.
hip and pocket quiver out of rawhide

ash strip woven

brain tan with possibles bag

brain tan with canvas bow case set up

Got another in the making only this type using a real cat
