Hi,

Boy did we have a great time!  I got to make a bow with David, learn some knapping with Eddie and Steven...got Montana hooked on the flute (hope so anyway cause he sure was getting some awesome notes!).  My wife Barbara enjoyed watching all the bow making, pottery making, knapping, deer tanning and such.  Our pup Sally the Lousiana Catahoula enjoyed sniffing all the bones, hides and all the petting from the kids and adults.  The cloudy sky on Saturday kept us cool and we slept great with the cool nights.  If you missed it this year you sure ought to come next 'cause it was AWESOME!

Thanks for the pics guys. Was Dick hiding from the cameras or is he still wanted by the FBI?  ;D I wish I could have been there. Hopefully next year I will.   Rand, Did you get a good osage stave?  Oh by the way, those snaky flutes are awesome.  ;)  A hint for Christmas. ;D

Hi Pat,

If I knew which flute you would like it would be in the mail tomorrow!  I did find a stave and a blank.  My buddy here (that I have been teaching flute building to) is now going to have to help me try to make an osage bow...but I will probably drive him nuts (like I did David at the knapin) with all the questions/worrying that he will wind up wacking me over the head with it and then it will be another bow busted by me!!!  I am looking for a copperhead to send to it's maker so I can skin it and mail it to you!!  (Reminds me of my other buddy Scott the bone flute maker who got a shipment of ostrich leg bones that UPS called him about.  They said come get these things right now or you can dig them out of the dumpster out back!!!!...seems they had gotten a rather ripe odor on the trip down from PA in August!!)

The knapin was really a lot of fun and we are looking forward to going back next year.

Rand:-)

Hey Y'all! These guys just let me register onto this board.
I know, I know, there goes the neighborhood. ;D ;)

I'm pretty much like the rest of you and can't remember to stop once
in a while and take some pics. Really going to have to work on that.
And I didn't get any pics of Dick during the event but here's one of him
the week before. :)

You've seen some pics of bowmaking demos, and catahoulas beautiful flutes,
hides being worked, and there was some knapping going on, too.

pots being fired.

Randy the Rock Man had some glass he got off the front of an old bank that
was being torn down,

and it didn't take long for it to be put to the test. (I'm not straight on Board names
to real names yet, but this may be some of Madcrows work.)

but this one's out of obsidian.

It's kind of a shame that more interested visitors didn't make it out to see us,
but then again, they'd just be taking up our time, and we had plenty to do! ;)
I think we have a good little get together going and would really like to see it
continue. I had a great time stepping back in time for a weekend and want to
Thank Dick and Jim for putting this show together.

Sunday morning was a new day.............

Hope to see you all next year,
Joe

First, a thanks to all the mentoring types at the rendezvous. Learned alot and met a great group of people. Will be back every year.

Reason for the post:  We might have left a knapsack of bowyers tools behind. If found, please contact at

DreamCatchersCo@hotmail.com or 304-667-3550 or through this board.

Thanks,

Jay

Jay;
With all the stuff I picked up after the event, I "think" there is a blue back pack still in the back of my truck with a ton of other stuff I haven't unloaded. I'll check on it tomorrow.

Is the osage bow still shooting good? Post some pics in the "bows" forum when you get it gussied up.

Greetings Dick and Hillbilly -

Dick - Thanks for the potential find on the blue pack. Sounds like the one. Also sounds like a good excuse for me to retrieve it then rock-hunt in NC!! Cool.

Hillbilly - that sweet osage selfbow is getting good exercise and going to take a beeswax finish this week. Aidan (FlyRockFly) loves it and the schoolin' he got from you, KnightD and the others. He is working on some Kanawha Black points and we hope to munch on his first bow kill soon.

Thanks, guys,

Jay

We would love to see some pics of his bow after he gets it done.. He worked hard on it and was more than willing to learn and really enjoyed doing the work him self.. He did a great job of listning and learning.. ;)

Jay, the back pack is here. There are a couple clamps and some other "stuff" in it. Its here when you want to pick it up. I live about 8 miles further up on Rt 49 from where the event was.
