Changed my shooting style
« on: May 14, 2009, 09:33:08 pm »
I have been making and shooting wood bows for almost two years now. I am left eye dominant and have been shooting right handed which just feels natural. My accuracy has been not so good at times and worst at other times.  I made a little spliced at the handle bamboo bow about 20 lb pull to experiment new shooting styles with. I just could not get the hang of shooting left handed. So I decided to shoot right handed but close my left eye. If I cant my bow and my head just right the tip of the arrow is in line with the flight. which leaves me with just the elevation. With just shooting a little this afternoon I see a big improvement in my shooting. Here is a pic of my main bow and the little bamboo bow just for laughs. which has no limb taper and was tillered by tempering and reflexing the inner limbs.

It sounds hard, changing eyes and hands and alll. I find that when I draw deeply and with my back it helps a lot.    Kenneth

I shoot the same way for the same reason. Found out I was left eye dominant looking at sight pins back in my wheelie days. My .000 little league batting average shouldv'e clued me in....

Yes you can cut a small hole in a piece of paper, look through it with both eyes open and center something through the hole. Then close one eye if it goes away ,close the other the one that keeps what you are looking at center is your dominant eye.  :) I am left eye dominant and shoot right handed,I shoot with both eyes open and would probably do better shooting left handed but I have tried and just can't get the hang of shooting left handed. That is my excuse for shooting so
poorly.  ;) ;D ;D

Danny, I know what you are asking I'm in the same boat. I am left handed left eye dominant but shoot left hand anchor and pull right handed. It feels natural but I know that it's wrong. I was made to be right handed in school because at the time they had nothing that left handed kids could use. So what do people like us do?
What can I say - I'm a female?  That says it all.

Use to shoot right and now shoot left.  Helped me a lot even know I still suck, but thats because I dont practice enough

I started off shooting right handed even though I do everything else left handed.  Switched to shooting left handed last December when I started making bows and my accuracy dramatically improved.  I am left eye dominant.  The trouble is when I have to make someone else a bow they are right handed and it is really difficult for me to shoot in a right-handed bow now.  Maybe I should just shoot from both sides.
