Jamie- I believe you found a turtle in a black piece of stone that was dying to come out.
Tracy- That was a flake that came off of a piece of Keokuk that I had at home.  I've been taking Outbackbob 48 advice and just thinning down all of my spalls to a point that I need to stop.  Then I got bored and picked up a flake and tried making a point.  I've tried a bunch of other times with no luck.
