Howdy all. 

I wanted to say hello as this is my first post here.  I have been a regular over on the stickbow website for a while and I have started tinkering with making selfbows.  I got a tip to slide over to this site for expert advise on such things as the stickbow site seems to cater more towards laminated bow building. 

Anyway, I am excited to be here and hope to learn some struff from all of you in the next few months as I go for my second selfbow.

Here is my first primitive kill.

The bow is a Lynn Harrelson Kolomi longbow, which is not really an all wood bow in the aspect of a self-bow, but it is two strips of laminated osage with a back and belly of noded bamboo (no glass).  I am not really sure how to classify it, but since it has no glass, it sure is a bit more 'primitive' than the usual fiberglass on the back and belly of most modern trad bows.

The arrows were cedar with stone points, but I did use plastic classic nocks instead of self-nocks ... I am on the 'baby-step' plan for primitive bowhunting!  LOL!!!

Anyway, I hope to be able to build my own selfbow for this fall and winter.  Hopefully, I can make one that will shoot well enough to hunt whitetails with.  Thanks for looking.

Welcome aboard, Scrub Buck. Congrats on the deer, looks like you had a good hunt and a lot of good meat. Feel free to jump in and ask questions or shoot the bull-we talk about all kinds of bows here, including those bamboo and other wooden laminates- as long as there's no glass in 'em, we like 'em.

Here's my first attemp at a selfbow a few weeks ago.  I know it isn't the prettiest thing in the world, but it did shoot!  I had two big knots in the lower limb that I messed up on.  I compromised one knot and I ended up making a hinge where I took too much wood off the back gettting it to bend.

Oh well, live and learn.  It was fun, and I quit shooting it before the lower limb busted.  I'll keep it for reference for the next one I try.

Welcome Scrub! Don't be afraid to ask questions from the initial bow layout on through a finished bow. Posting pictures along with the questions and I'm sure you'll receive some good feedback.
