Turkey tail (Oct point challenge)

Here is a pic I grabbed of some turkey tails that Tim Dillard made. Very nice examples. most I found out about them was that they are believed to be mostly a cache blade for use in burial.  Alot were broken.There have been many caches found with points numbering upward of 400! All speculations as to why.

High quality mat was used,Most were hornstone.

They can be any size but most of the finer ones are have good length,fairly wide (2.5") and thin,good workmanship.There are a few examples of dbl notching.

Interesting in that the points look rounded instead of a sharp point. Wonder why?

Timo, This is one of my favorites, here,s a couple I did quite awhile ago. The tan one is texas an was the very first turkey tail for me,an the darker one is hornstone I believe. Wish I  knew more on the history of turkey tails an I would be thrilled to find just one. Later Bob

I put this one over on the other thread, but I guess I'll put it here too. :-\
 It's also my first try at a turkey tail.
 I believe most of the real ones are from hornstone and had some cortex on each end. Indicating they got the very most from the stone they were using.
 Another thing i've noticed is that the tip is more often than not, just a tiny bit off center ???

Wow those ar esome awesome looking points. If they are points. I have been trying to make something worthy of posting in these threads, but I am still in the learning stages. Mine end up as gravel or bird points.

 I'd almost bet they were a form of neck knife. By the way guys, nice blades.

Well here's my shot at the Oct challange

Had a medical thing pop up and lost some of my vision in one eye,there's grey spots everywere.but I can still see out of it and that's the main thing.Had to search but I did find this peice of Kentucky stone and wish I could have gotten it thinner but that will come later hopefully.

Well it's good to be back at it,just have to take more time ,isolate platforms and then hit the darn things.

Y'all are turning out some nice stuff! Eddie (Madcrow,) you need to finish one of those soda-cracker dacite bifaces you have into a turkeytail. Roger, that's sweet! I can't do anything like that with both my eyes working. Looks very authentic. Shannon, Bob, fine lookin' points. I think I still have a piece of hornstone sitting around somewhere if I can find it, if I can dig it out I'll have to try this one.
