I've read some posts on here about hide glue and Knox Gelatin has popped up. Are you talking regular ole Knox Gelatin, just add water and you have glue?

Yup.

add water, and slowly heat over a double boiler. You want the consistency and temperature of warm pancake syrup.

Yes....just don't add as much water as the Directions state...just add warm water simmer in a Double Boiler....till the Knoxx is like warm Honey....and it's ready to use

Never would have believed it. Cool.
Is this suitable for laying down rawhide backing?

Knox gelatin is hide glue refined for food quality. Use it just like any hide glue.  I have heard to reconstitute it in cold water first then heat it to a warm temp like others have said. NOT HOT!

So true. I love telling folks that their favorite jellos are glue.

Its great for sticking down rawhide. If you find a bubble under the backing just reliquidfy the glue with a bit of heat and squeeze it out.

Quite a few guys use an old coffee maker element to heat their glue. It's supposed to be pretty close to ideal temp.
