recurving maple board bow

I would like to attempt to recurve a maple board bow.  right now it is 71 ntn, tillered on the long string to 35# @ 24.  When should i recurve the tips and what is the best method?

what drawlength/weight are you going for, 71 in is rather long especially for a recurve

I agree. I think recurves excel better at shorter lengths. Maple makes a fine recurve, and I've done it with dry heat, especially if it's a board. I usually recurve the tips sooner than later, most often at floor tiller. Set out to make a recurve... don't start making a longbow, and then change your mind half way. JMO.

i agree cut that thing off to about 64" or maybe 66.  I made one pretty recently out of a good qtr sawn board.  I actually steamed it for 15 min then used dry heat as i was putting it on the recurve form.   worked really well.  you could go shorter the 64 but it has to be a really good board and your tiller has to be spot on.

I am going for 40-45# at 29" draw.  What length would you suggest?

With careful tillering, you should be able to get that with 64".
