Cherry Beam - a birthday present

This bow my best friend build for his wife's birthday. I only helped on the last tiller and with the finish .It's from hornbeam backed with cherry bark - So "Cherry Beam" was born ;-) . It's 68" long, a little over 1" wide at the fadeouts to 5/16" at the tips. Ebonyoverlays. 33#@27". I gave 6 Pinearrows with goosefletches to the gift.

A very fine bow - and a great gift of course.
I would like to see more of the cherry-bark-backing.

it's not HopHornbeam it's german hornbeam - little different and white of course ;-)

Nice bow and the tiller looks good. I have made 3 bows with cherry bark and love the look. On my last 2 I left the lichens, etc on and sealed over that. On my first I removed all that down to the smooth coppery surface of the bark. Very cool stuff!   Is your hornbeam the same genus as ours; Carpinus? It is commonly called muscle wood here because the trunks have a sinewy muscular look to them.

           I really like this Bow....Simple ....yet it has an elegant touch......sorta reminds Me of a Fine Wine......... ::)

Very nice bow. The cherry bark backing looks great against the white wood. I'm sure they will both be pleased. Congratulations.

Yeah, it's from the same family - birch. We don't name it muscle wood but it's a good view - it really looks like sinewy muscles.
It's one of the strongest woods here in Germany.
