Don't stone me...

My son in law found this beside a dumpster in New Jersey.  The bad news; he kept it.
The good news; I'm going to have him send it to me for "safe keeping", and I will send him and my daughter a pair of proper wood bows, all they have to do is promise not to shoot anything in the house that I wouldn't, get some instruction on safe, correct shooting, and we will speak of it no more.
But before we speak of it no more, has anyone here ever seen one of these before?  It's aluminum, about 60" tip to tip (?), and the only markings on it are 52lbs 28"-29".  I've never seen one before.   ???

American Archery made Aluminum Bows way back when...PAR-X made by Park Tool & Die in Jackson Michigan about the 1930-1940's..... so did Grimes Bows...made in Pontiac Michigan back in the 50's.... be careful with this...because the Aluminum gets brittle with Age and can Shatter on you when Shot...I would advise making a Wallhanger out of this Bow...and not chancing shooting it....JMO

   The first one I saw was at the big swapmeet in Quartsite Az. Nice looking bows but I hear they are dangerous and can explode without warning. Steve

 Steve, did you know the name of the Manufacturer? I couldn't find it last night. My guess is it is late 40's, early 50's. And those old aluminum bows will blow. Bear Archery almost went bankrupt because of them.

I listed 3 Manufacturers that made them back in the 40s and 50s.... could be more ... that's all I could remember...

thats a pretty neat find. i have never seen one from aluminum. though i have wondered bout tillering one out of a leaf spring with a plasma cutter and angle grinder........ ;D

Yep, aluminum gets brittle with age, whether it's worked or not.  That's why aircraft need fuselage rivets replaced on time schedule, not a mileage schedule.
