Anyone ever make....

Anyone ever make or attempt to make a bamboo fly fishing rod?  looks like it could be hard but a lot of fun... ???

awesome I hope he chimes in too...I want to give it a try but it looks like you need a lot of tools that I don't have....would it work to just straighten a long piece of cane?  or do you have to split a larger piece and taper it down

A guy I used to work for built bamboo fly rods. You split and taper each individual lamination. The simplest one is made of two pieces tapered and laminated together. If anyone would like I can get some info from him on tapers and length. From what I've seen him build all you really have to have is a hand plane and to make your self a form to plane the tapers to. The 6 piece rod I'm no sure about.

when i was like 13 or so i cut a big shoot and i tied a reel to one end then a paper clip at the other end to hold the line taunt.
