Real Hunting Distance?
« on: October 02, 2010, 11:06:03 pm »
My tendonitis in my elbows are better, so I am on a mission to try and get my first selfbow harvest ;D. When you guys set up, what distance do you try to get your set up for the shot. I was just wanting to hear some set up distances everyone trys to get their shot from. I realize that it is the distance that you can accurately shoot. Just wanted to hear what distances you guys like your game to be. Thanks.

less than twenty yards out but I would prefer it if the deer was close enough to reach out and touch, LOL.  ;)

Most of my spots are heavily wooded and I try to set up at 12 -15 yds but will have lanes to 20.....The 20's are so I can see 'em coming, hate it when they just "materialize" out of thin air.

I Second what half-eye says. Nothin worse than waiting for 3 hours just to get busted by a deer 10 yds away. ;D
I try to make sure they are screened for my draw, too, But I ain't made my bones with a selfbow either. Nothin' was movin today on our opener.

I like that 10 to 15 yd range. If it's dead on, perfect, I'll go25 yds.

for me its 20yds or less
but it also depends on what im hunting for
deer i will take shots at 20yds if i ever get the damn chance  >:(
for turkey, which im currently hunting, its 15 yds or less
but i cut all my lanes from my blind out to 25 yds today
just so i can see a little better, under growth in the woods here in mn this time of year is thick
like hair on a gorilla thick  ;)
well not just so i can see better,i got drawn in the lootery for gun this fall
but i do have my hick selfbow i made this summer with
if they come close enough i'll shoot the bow
if they just come in my lanes and stay at the far end
the ol 835 ulti mag will reach out and touch them real nice like  ;)

I generally try to set up shots for 10-20 yds, but I've killed a few at 30 and beyond, too.

15 yds is max for me, but man it's easy to get busted trying to get that close, i love salking and still hunting but it can take up to two hours to close the distance from 30 to 15 yds! Best of luck!

i set up for 20 yards and under, but i missed a spike at 13 yards and 15 feet sat. afternoon.  went out this afternoon to try and figure out what went wrong and i put two arrows in the 10 ring.  the little sucker was faster than greased lightning!
