Thanksgiving doe
« on: November 28, 2010, 08:37:49 pm »
We had 4 doe days this weekend in east Texas.I tagged this one this morning.13 yards with a brand spankin' new osage bow that I just finished, and switchcane arrow ,tipped with a bandsaw trade point. She was quartered away, and had her front leg way back, which I did'nt notice, until, after what I thought was a perfect shot, suddenly did'nt look so great when she stretched out and headed for the hills.I gave her a little over an hour, since it was cold, then picked up a blood trail that went on and on.I probably covered a mile of windin' and weavin' trail, through some awful thick stuff, and a solid hour and a half of trackin' before I found her piled up.It was a 300+ yard drag out of the woods. This was  the furthest I've ever trailed a deer ,which, I ended up finding. God Bless

Good thing those deer are color blind....that yaller wood sticks out like neon in the photo!  A guy could leave his blaze orange behind and carry Osage Orange to be safe!!!

Nice doe, sir, kudos to you for perservering on the tracking job.

Thanks Fella's.I did feel mighty blessed to see her laying there after a long track.I have felt that bitter disappointment when a trail quits cold,(several times) ,after an all day search. It is a joy to complete a trackin' job,no matter how easy,or difficult it was. God Bless
