finishing question
« on: December 26, 2010, 10:44:47 pm »
I just finished an elm selfbow and stained it with Minwax oil based stain.  My question is, can I now finish it with Tru-oil?  I'm wondering about compatability.  I can try a test piece, but thought someone with more experience than me might have suggestions.  Thanks for any help.  Darryl

I'd give the oil based stain a few days before adding the Tru-Oil.

I let it dry three days, as Pat B suggested, before putting the first coat of Tru-Oil on.  No problem at all with compatability.  I've got two coats on it now and it looks great.  Thanks for your help.
