Nice, Jamie. I've never made an atlatl. ??? I should try. I like your style of self atlatl. ;) Looks more authentic. Is the handle wrap cordage you made?    Pat

pat , it is jute....i love the stuff.
dogwood, carved hook, firehardned, jute handlewrap, pitch resin on butt of handle, and beeswax finish...it realy, realy rips a dart!

 p.s.     can u zip me some pics of your buddys brass,or metal primitive field tips...i remember in a post a while back u talked about them. i just want to check then out...jamie

Here ya go Jamie. The ones for cane arrows are 16d nails with brass melted on the head and then ground into a conical shape. You can adjust the weight by trimming the nail length. The nail is placed in the center hole and the cane wrapped below it.
  The others are for shoot and dowel arrows. You slot the shaft like you would for a trade point glue in the metal insert and shape the shaft to the contour of the point. Then wrap with sinew around the narrowed portion.
  I haven't made any arrows with them but Kenneth (little John) has and said they work well. He gave them to me.      Pat
