knotty yew flatbow(improved tiller)

Made this bow from a yew branch that had an rpi of about 25/30. The finish is danish oil and the handle wrap is hemp.
It's 54 inches long and pulls 45#@24".

She looks pretty good but, IMO, needs more bending near the handle.

That is a rockin lil bow! I see yew and ppl talk about it having that many RPI, it makes my head spin imagining trying to chase a single thin growth ring the length of that  ;D.   and ya maybe a little more bind towards the handle, but IMO if you have more wood waiting on ya, just let that baby be, and nail the tiller on the next one you make.

Yeah, I'm with Pat B, you need to fade the handle down to the limb a bit quicker, the centre third of the bow doesn't seem to be flexing.
If you let more of the bow flex it will be less likely to fail, mind Yew is tough stuff.
Mighty fine bow tho', hope you don't mind the critique.

I'll improve the tiller tomorrow, ill keep you guys updated. What is the max drawlength you can get with a 54 inch bow? 24" is kind of annoying to shoot with it.

Good job Youngbowyer, As far as draw length you could get a couple more inches if you get it bending a little closer to the handle like Pat said and also needs a little more wood scraped of the outer third of the lower limb. Hope that helps. Congratulations, Looks like your well on your way. ;)

Very nice.  You'll get a couple more inches of draw out of it yet.  You have taken that yew from alive to bow really quickly.  Did it take any set?

Yes, as Pat says, would need more bend at the handle.

With Yew you should get half the length of the bow without too much trouble, but you can't afford a long stiff handle on a short bow, so try to keep the grip length as short as possible.
