Spring ammo

Made some Nutter fluflu's for the spring morel / stump season. Was able to eke 3 extra fletches out of a dozen three rivers full - lengths. A roll of fletch tape and some duco allowed for quick, painless assembly.  With my Mr. Magoo eyes, I'll probably lose at least 2 today despite the paint job ;D

Those will surely be hard to loose!  ;D That's how I like my flu flus also, BRIGHT!  I also like nutters for small game. Most effective point I've used for squirrels.

hey jturkey -
Standard classic nocks from 3 rivers - they stay on good for the draw but don't hang on to the string too much when shot.
The "nutter" points are a classic, cheap way to make small game / stump arrows I learned on here. They don't bury as bad as field points,and  will stick in a hay bale just fine. Point on the right has about 30 shots into it. I'll simply re-taper with a taper tool, goop some duco or other glue on it and tighten on the shaft. Definitely the way to go. I think stumping is 10 times better than shooting at a huge target at known distance. Shoot the old rotten stumps and walk up hill so's ya have a good backstop ;)

Would an Acorn Nut help in protecting the tip of the shaft a bit more or do you need to be able adjust the placement of the nut on the shaft for a more balanced flight?

Great idea btw...I need to toss together a set.

Now those are BRIGHT arrows!

Aside from the excercise of walking the woods and looking for errant arrows, stump shooting allows you to practice judging distance in all kinds of conditions.  THAT in itself helps you during hunting season.

Pick a target.
Guess the distance.
Take your shot.
Step off the distance and chastise yourself for exaggerating.
Chastise yourself for missing.
Look for your arrow.
Repeat as necessary.

You can mix it up by taking another archer along and play a game of "Horse".

I think an acorn nut would tend to pop off, but might tru it. I also want to put a serrated washerbehind the nut for a cheap judo imatation

Acorn nuts work great too.   Don't have to taper the shaft very much...just enough to start the threads.  Use glue too.
