Making palm leaf rope in class today

To demonstrate how people utilize the natural resources in their communities we made palm leaf rope.  The students enjoyed the lesson and the rope they made was usable and held when pulled on with great force.
I was HECHO EN MEXICO, but assembled in Texas and I'm Texican as the day is long...  Psalm 127:4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

What do you teach?  I teach also, would love to start a club doing things like this, don't think they'll let me teach bow making and flintknapping though!

I teach first grade bilingual in Dublin, Texas.  What and where do you teach?
