Simple osage selfbow Second selfbow

Well while I have been waiting for my sinew backed short static recurve to cure I could not help but move on to a new project.  So I took a narrow stave and made this longbow.  It is 64 inches tip to tip 1 3/8 inches at the fades down to 1/2 at tips.  It pulls 65 pounds at 28 inches.  In the pics I am pulling it to 27 inches.  I used black horn for the tip overlays and black horn for a arrow shelf.  Wrapped the handle in black leather for contrast with the black horns.  this is my second completed self bow.  the top limb has a bit of reflex hardly any really about 7 inches from the tip out to the tip.  It took about 1 inche of string follow.  What do yall think?

Well let me put it this way..I would happily hire you to make me a bow anytime if the shipping to sweden would not cost me more than the bow itself ;)

I like it.  What a great idea  - to make a bow while one dries.  Isn't bow making fun?

yea I love it got board of making boo and hickory backed laminated bows I love taking a stave picturing what I want and trying to make it come to life  the laminated bows just bore me now.  Thanks Guys

Great looking bow...gotta love Osage!  I really like the horn overlays and arrow pass.  I am wrapping up a "similar" bow and am just about done with the tru-oil and getting really to wrap the handle...I may "borrow" your arrow pass/rest idea...looks really sharp!

yea it works well to I hate it when I got to shoot and I tear the top of my hand up It keeps them fleting off the skin thats for sure.

it is not as quiet as leather but you can pic up some double sided adesive strips at home depot and make you own stick on leather strike plats and put a little piece on top of it.

Nice all-around bow.  1 3/8"  isn't all that narrow in my book for osage, but it looks like you really made it work well for you.  The only constructive criticism I have is about that 2nd picture.  Looks like you could've cleaned up the growth ring a little more with a rounded scraper.  I don't know if it really matters for performance or longevity, but that's what aesthetics tells me.

thanks every one.  John, yea I left it raised right there because of thouse pin knots.  I always hear about leaving knots raised I just figured that is how it was done.  Probably should have taken it down considering it is in the fade anyway and really does not bend there.   But I am a newby to selfbows I did not know if it was ok or not.
