Thanks Hillbilly...makes perfect sense and it sounds like a great point.  Have some 'mater stakes my boys picked up and this head would work great for them too.

Thank you very much everyone The comments are greatly appreciated.

Lee......The points are duplex nails I don't know how others do them, but this is what I do. I hold and roll the nail in my fingers while grinding the end head off (dipping in water often to keep it cooled down) Keep doing this till the end cap is ground to a point. I don't cut the end off and then grind because I want to keep as much of the weight as I can When I get them ground, they tend to weigh about 146gn each.(16 penny nail) You can adjust the weight by grinding or cutting a bit off. Hope this helps.
How do you size the cane's hollow and how do you hold the points in?
I heat & hammer the head & cut the pointy end (not the head end) to size them. I've been gluing them in with "fletchtite".
I was wondering if I should upset the nail slightly with a chisel to rough them up some and split the cane & wrap with artificial sinew?

Keb...I use a duplex nail (2 headed) and cut the one off. Put the point on a grinder and round off top point. If the nai is to fat, then I carefully drill it to the size of the nail. If the hole is a little big, put extra epoxy in the shaft To glue them in I use epoxy. I use a flat toothpick to stirr and then let a couple drops fall into the hole. Then I roll the nail in the epoxy to get a little on the nail. Start the nail in. Rotate and pull/push in an dout till it seat. wipe off excess. turn upside down and set on some foil. Let set till the next day and wa-la
