how do you unfollow a thread?

If one has been too liberal in commenting on several threads and wants to clean up what comes into his "Show new replies to your posts" page how is it possible to unfollow a thread?

At the top right of the window you may see  "modify" (not sure if everyone has that option). If you do click on that, make your changes and click save and you are good to go.
  If you don't have that option I may be able to help you with it.
