A few new bows we built
« on: July 21, 2007, 09:20:36 pm »
Hello All
I'm new here (well not really but haven't posted in a while) so I just thought I would share
some photos of some new bows we just finished working on.
Hope you like them.
Thanks
Bill

Bamboo backed Ipe, Tiger Striped Maple, and Black Walnut and
Backed with a Python skin!!! This is the bow in the middle of the first picture.
68" NTN ...68# @ 28". This bow shot 189fps through the chrono.
It's the 2nd bow that the gentleman in the photo has made...I glued it up for him but he did everything else.

Welcome Bill. Nice bows! Are all the ones in the first pic self bows? If you will put up full draw pics of each bow they will be considered for bow of the month. Will you tell us a little about each?    Pat

Hey guys

The 189fps isn't a self bow. It's bamboo backed Ipe and we put some Python skins on it to "dress it up".
It's one of the fastest bows I've ever built.

Two of the bows in the picture are self bows and the other three are bamboo backed.

I'll add some more pictures of the others.

It's not the best angle so I'll have to try to get a better picture sometime

Here is the Osage self bow in the first picture. It's still unfinshed here but pretty close to done.
It's 70" NTN and 45# @ 28", and it's 1-1/8" inch wide and tapers to 3/8" tips. You can see the tips are naturally slightly recurved if you look close.
It has a little bit of character to it and ALOT of knots. It's a pretty smooth shooter for a D bow. I haven't shot it through the chrono yet so I'm not sure of the arrow speed but I think it will definitly be good enough to hunt with.

Hey Frank

The Bamboo backed Ipe  bow is 1-1/4" wide at the handle and tapers down to 3/8" tips in about the last 12" of the limb. The handle
is a combination of Ipe (core) and Tiger Striped Maple and Black Walnut and it has a 1/2" wide arrow shelf cut into the pistol style grip.

I use a reflex deflex glue up form like the Rudder Bows website shows. That's where I buy alot of my supplies and they've been really helpful with tips about glue up and tillering. I use West marine two part epoxy (#105 & #205) to glue up all my bows. I really like the stuff.

Here is the Hickory Selfbow. It's 66" NTN and 35# @ 28" of draw and is 1-1/2 wide and tapers to 3/8" tips. It has Ipe tips glued on it. The tiller isn't quite right on the top limb yet. There is a huge knot that is making the limb a little stiff in last foot or so.  >:(
This bow is for the son of the gentleman in the photo.
