Author Topic: Arrow hitting hard on strike plate (Read 8238 times)

Here's my setup:

70" wood composite longbow, 50# @ 30", string nock 5/8" above 90 degrees, ash arrows spined 55-60.

Looking at my leather strike plate, it appears the arrow is wearing on the plate a bit. I'm not hearing anything odd upon release (like a *CLACK* of the arrow hitting the rest).

so, what are some factors for strike plate wear?

Arrows to weak or to stiff,What lengith are the cut to ? Remember the arrow are spined at 28 in.
anything over that will weaken them by about 5 lbs. pr. in so if you have them 31 they would only be 40/45 witch may be to weak for a composit.5/8 above is pretty high at least for me but everyone is different there.You might also check the front of your feathers and see that they are smooth.Do the arrows fly good ?Just some ideas.

Generally speaking, you want arrows for self bows to be about 10# less spine weight than actual draw weight. There are other factors to consider but that would be a good place to start. Pat

I agree Pat but I don't think this is a selfbow and is probably cut close to center,if so that would make a difference.

I would say to heavy of spine. What length is the arrow? Do you draw the bow to the full 30"? Justin

the bow is not cut to center at all; just a shelf attached

and I have a full 30" draw.

If it sounds good and shoots good I don't think there is a serious problem. Your spine souds like it should be close.

how bought the fletching. if its raised even a bit it will eventually tear at the plate.

Alot of times if the fletching is rough in the front or not wrapped it will cut it also.
