I have tried the hex pine I don't know if it's the same that you are thinking of it was like 6 triangular strips glued together and made round to form a shaft. Personally I didn't care for it the ones that I had flew like a wet log no life to em at all I guess it was all the glue. Ron

Hexshafts are all I've ever used (other than carbon fiber for the wheelie bow), and they seem to work fine for me.  They're tough as hell, and you don't have to worry about spine when putting the fletching on, because it's virtually the same no matter the rotation of the shaft.
