Warbow draw length?

How is the draw length measured, from the back, or belly of the bow? Because from the belly I can barely draw to 30". Is this long enough for a warbow? Joel

All draw lengths are measured from the back of the bow to the bottom of the nock throat.  If you can't get your war bow drawn past 30" youi need to eat your Wheaties and practice more!  ;D
  Are you using the proper method to draw a heavy war bow. It isn't the same as we use for target or hunting.

I think all the Wheaties I've had have just increased my table muscles. I've been practice ing form on a Bowfit band. I have yet time to make a Warbow with three little kids. But hopefully by summer. I have the bow trade then my Warbow.

You can get your bow back to 30"?  In that case the jobs done because as far as we know medieval and Tudor arrows were about that length.  I don't know where the fixation with 32" came from but it's not from the archaeological record.  Consider your 30" draw period correct :)

How tall are you Joel, where does the 30" draw come to, i.e to the chin or to the ear?

As Yeoman says you are in good company, many of the MR arrows are about that long.

I'm 5'7". My 30in comes about inch behind my ear. Any farther and I don't think mechanicly I could go any more.

This information is excellent to know, as I'm also 5'7" :D

I'll shoot for 30" draw length as well once I "upgrade", since I have short, skinny arms.

In the old days the draw was until the barbs or shouldering of the head touch the bow hand. The longer MR arrows were up to 31 1/2" but thirty inches is fine. If you had longer arms, as some of the archers had, you could do the longer arrows.

The build of the person is more important with draw length, wide shoulders, and stocky is better. In fact if you look at the top archers at the minute not many of them are considered tall, but they all do 32". I think I am right in saying some of the MR archers were over 6' but the arrows don't go above 32.5".

If this video isn't inspirational I don't know what is.... Simon Stanley drawing #165 @ 33 1/2". He can't be over 5'7".

Minimum length on EWBS quarter pound arrow is 30 1/2", if you get to there, I'd consider the job done! I'm 6' and shoot a 32" arrow by the way.....
