At least you are trying! ;) I have not even tried for anything yet.

I feel like this is cheating, but I did make it with this post in mind. So until I make another... This will have to serve as my attempt.

Clovis  :-\ Cant wait to get started!! I have 2 preforms ready to go so I hope they dont turn into 4 :'(
Somewhere here I was reading just the other day about proper holding for fluting the basal without breaking into. Help me if I'm wrong but the thread said to hold the preform and apply pressure to the point into the thigh to help from the shock from breaking the point into two pieces?!?! Was waiting to give it a try but now I must?

Well crap! :(  I didn't even make it to the fluting before I broke this one.  Looks like two more hunting points coming up! ;D. Josh

A Clovis should have a nice center ridge line. Make sure your flakes don't travel past the center of the piece and you'll develop a nice ridge for the flute to travel down. The nipple/ platform should be low and the force of your strike should go in at a fairly shallow angle. A flute is really only a thinning flake taken from the end of the point. Knapper you are correct that supporting the tip should help stop the piece from breaking.
