Second attempt.  The material is opalized phosphate.  I'm still not satisfied with it, but given the delicate nature of the material, this is as brave as I want to get with the barbs.  Josh

Nice point, Josh. That looks like the heat treated coral I brought to the Classic last year. The opalized phosphate looks like ribbon candy, gray,brown, tan, green and black.

I made an attempt with a real big spall...probably a mistake.  I had trouble thinning the base end and snapped off the first barb when it got thick and I struggled to keep the notch going.  Should have just made a big triangle. 



I'll see if I can thin it more now, shorten it a little and try again.

Theres a notching vid i posted on this part of the forum titled notching video. Its very helpful and probably can help even more advanced knappers

You all are demonstrating to me that this is not going to be an easy month/point. Gonna have to give it a shot this weekend and see what I come up with. Good lookin stuff so far.

Ohh man that is sweet looking  8), dont feel to bad george iv broken two today notching them ugh one was a perty blue fiberoptic glass  :( the other was just a blue beer bottle bottom maybe i should work on some stone for awhile i made a new notcher i think it just hates glass i ran some practice notches on some small stone spalls and it worked great lol i guess i need to make a custome one just for glass and obsidian
