Keith and GregB are back
« on: October 01, 2012, 09:06:46 am »
Two of my friends and Twin Oak members are hard on the deer here. Keith has two does and a 5 pt buck. All with a 38 lb selfbow. The longest shot was 7 yds. He knows how to get them in close. Greg B has a 5 pt buck he took with a Big Horn recuve that he hunted with 20 years ago. I think he had a 12 yd shot. Great hunters and friends.

Hey Big A, how is ya bud ? Sure missed seeing you this year at Twin Oaks. Mason and I did not get to travel this year. I look forward to this thread every year. Hope to meet Keith one day and pick his brain around the campfire. He seems to be able to pick, "The tree" and get them under 20yds every year. That seems to be our problem. We get 5-6 deer a year but none with a Mason's Twin Oaks Osage yet.... Just cannot get them under 40 yds seems like.... Our deer travel is so random in the Big Woods we hunt here. We always seem to pick the wrong tree and even if we move after observing them a day or two, then they move closer to the original tree we were in. Oh well it will come together for us soon.

Congrats to Keith and GregB ! Looking forward to more from these two and good luck to the rest of tge Twin Oaks crew !

Jimmy, we work hard on our stand placement. We look for anything that will move them close. We setup for the 10-15 yd shot. Funnels is the name of the game. A hillside flat ,a fence, a ditch, anything that makes an edge. We move the stands from what we observe to zero in on them. Big A

Jon I mean his total arrow weight is about 500 gr. I did not want to mislead you.

Thanks Big A ! We do that too but our woods are too big and deer are a little more random. Can't tell ya how many times we have moved 20-30yds to the tree they came by only to have them pass right by the tree we were in the week before ! Their luck will run out one day soon and Mason will have a good hero pic of your Twin Oaks Osage bow.

We checked on our spot behind the house yesterday to check the white oaks and found a huge chestnut oak had blown over recently. Could not have fallen in a better spot or direction. Made a funnel even more of a funnel now as they have to walk around it. Maybe this will be our magic spot this year ?

Keith, so much for those naysayers on light draw weights. 38lbs, sharp two blades and Keith's freezer is full, nuff said ! As I get older and start looking at lower draw weights it is comforting to look at all of Keith's hero pics. Ya don't gotta have a 70lb bow to kill a whitetail, just a sharp two blade, heavy arrow and accurate shot placement.
