Shingles knapping

I've had shingles for 2 weeks now.  I was pretty uncomfortable tonight so I went out and took my frustrations out on some innocent rock.  I started with a pretty little spall I got from Bevan (anybody heard from him lately?).  I got it almost done when I got a little greedy trying to drive a long flake where it was very thin to remove a step.



So, I grabbed another spall and promptly broke it.  Finally I found a nice big spall and knocked out a big triangle.  Pretty heavy at 230gr but I haven't notched it yet.  I ruin more points notching. :'(





Distracted me from the shingles for a bit. :)

Yowwwza! Like that 2nd point a lot. Take your time and when you get that finished if its still too heavy I ll trade ya for it!

Thanks guys. I'm actually feeling pretty decent Don, considering how long I've had it. It's frustrating to get it right when I want to bowhunt and I'm impatient as all get out.

The material is from some heat treated  spalls I got from Patrick way back when we first met. The center of the cobbles was dark, like Georgetown.  Outside of that just under the coretex is the lighter colored rock.  Don't know if the heat treating caused the color change, but I sure like the way it works.

Scott, how do you want it notched?

Those are some good points George. The bigger one looks like it would pass through anything. I hope you get well soon! I hear they are painful.

Thanks Tracy, shingles are a touch painful.  There's no doubt when it's time to take the pain meds cause they've run out. ;)

I haven't felt up to notching the big one yet.  Maybe tonight, though my wife has a honey-do list that's pretty impressive for the weekend that I want to start on tonight.  Maybe then I can get loose to deer hunt if I'm up to it over the weekend.  Major cold front coming through so I should be able to get to the stand without sweating off a few pounds.  Of course, the north wind will be wrong for everywhere I hunt.  I think I'll move a stand for the occasion.

Scott, I'm thinking about corner notching it...which means it'll probably be a stemmed point when I get done. ::)
