Sweet success

Well this morning was not what I had been hopin for. Went out last night and was seeing some moving around so I hoped it would carry over into this morning. When I climbed in it was cold, blustery, and wet. I had no confidence in seeing anything and was severely tempted to walk out and get some coffee. That's when I noticed this little guy eating his way down the hillside.

He first walked thru and I missed low, but it wasn't hard to call him back and soon he was walking back by and this time my arrow was true. I couldn't make myself wait more than a few minutes and I was checking his exit route for sign.

It was quickly apparent that my hit was lethal and so I relaxed and enjoyed the trail. It has been 2 years since I was able to pull this off and I couldn't have been more grateful for the opportunity. As I was nearing the creek I was tempted to cut straight to the crossing and find him in the water. Instead, I stayed on his trail and found him right on the rim of the bank.

After pulling him into position, I felt totally honored to live in the place I do. I took a little extra time saying thanks and enjoying the scenery.

As Pappy says, life is... well... good!

I see what you mean about life being good.  I can imagine the deep feelings as you sat beside the fire watching, hearing, and smelling the meat roasting.
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Thanks for the kind words, friends. I always appreciate the way folks on this site encourage each other and demonstrate common generosity! I've come to expect it, but I sure don't take it for granted.

I finished my first yew bow earlier this year and haven't even got around to posting it. I started the season with a beautiful trade bow I got from George and I was rough on it. After killing my turkey last week I decided to retire it and keep it around for a target bow. This yew bow was hitting hard and so I wanted to test it out and see if it had the stuff. It's 60" ttt and pulls around 58# @ 28". It has a thick strip of boa skin on the back and water buff horns on the tips. Flings an arrow faster than I expected and really laid into this little guy with ease.

The arrows are cane and turkey feathers with my stone points on the tips. Self nocks and pitch/sinew for the fastening. Total arrow weight is right at 550 grn.

The shot that took him was fairly quartered away and just a touch over 20 yds. I admit that my normal restraint was lacking, but in my defense he was shootable when I drew and then his last few steps took him over. I hit him in the liver with the point perforating the off side. Never did find the point, but I know where to get more.

Awesome! Nice work Scott. I've got some of those points of your's on my arrows. I sure hope one finds it's way into some vitals too.
