85 lb Take down molly
« on: April 25, 2013, 03:04:49 am »
Here's my latest Alaska take down molly. 72" ntn, 80 lbs plus @ 31", 2 1/2" wide at fades. Blood wood belly, bubbinga back, hickory core. Handle over lap is 8". Handle has two
extra lams , one zebra wood and one purple heart. 1/4" x 20 carriage bolts are 3/4" from each handle end. Nut knobs are turned blood wood. Levers are red oak, 13 3/4" long with 2 1/2" refex. There are thin purple heart patches over the bubbinga near fades to keep down a couple lifted splinters. The limbs can be taken down to 30 1/2". Bow was glued up with tiite bond 3. Sweet shooter
Here's some pics from the range today.  cheers fiddler49

I find tillering hard enough without offset limbs like that!
Very nice and what a weight,

Very cool! Do you think it would be possible to make a shorter version or does the length help with the stress on the joints?

Good looking bow, and good looking dog too.  :)

Thanks lads!
Yes you can build a shorter version if you have a shorter draw. This bow is a molly with removable levers but
you don't have to build this bow, You could make a straight limb bow and use the same over lap take down idea.
Tillering is much easier than it looks. Just make the bow string parallel to the handle. Here's a few more pics.  cheers fiddler49
