Feathers

Other than turkey, which seems to be hard to come by these days, especially, apparently, when I'm doing the hunting... sigh.

I digress.... other than turkey, what are some other good feathers for arrows?   I'm considering goose, blue grouse and maybe ... crow?  seems both of these might have some good oils that would help with moisture?

What other, more easily accessible feathers are good for arrows? 

Ok, I did say feathers, and not duct tape. :)

I know goose and crow will work fine, not sure about blue grouse, but if they are big enough, go for it!

We have loads of Canadian Geese near where I work--I mean..loads, and along with the geese and their feathers there is a few metric tons worth of Canadian Geese poo....too.

    There is a big 'ol black bird that eats all kind's of dead stuff that get's smacked by trucks >:D

Great!  that added nitrogen will help break down all these new wood stave and arrow shavings I'm loading into my compost pile these days.  I'm an addict!!

I tried buzzard last summer from one on the road.  Feathers worked nice but I think I put them on a crappy arrow. 

 They are really pretty too.  The seem to change from balck to white just by looking at them at a different angle.  I was concerned that someone of "authority" may give me a hard time if I used them??

geezsh - I guess I'm glad we don't have buzzards around these parts, I don't need the temptation --- I think I'll just stick with our bald eagles then (sic).

Has this thread gone to the birds?  I think so.  I think its time to get out and do some goose hunting, now that I have more use for them than just eating.

I used Pheasant feathers on my last arrow and it worked great !
Got me a 6 pointer with it on Nov. 4th. I've also used Turkey, Goose and crow.

BigWapiti let me know if you need some turkey feathers i have some left wings if you need them.
